About The Artwork
South Haven Michigan is near to Kalamazoo. I sometimes will travel over to lake Michigan in order to look for new subject matter and landscapes. I hope the viewer will get a sense of morning light and a kind of fresh morning air. The way the light reflects on the water will also give a sense of daybreak and renewal. I work primarily with oil paint so this is a natural choice for a medium to use. The style of painting lends itself to impressionism which is a natural way of working for myself.

I consider myself a regionalist painter. Similar in philosophy as Edward Hopper, Thomas Hart Benton and Andrew Wyeth. Instead of attaching themselves to a particular movement, they pushed their art into an individualist pursuit. About 35 years ago I started out to be a graphic designer. My tenure in that workforce was short lived and in retrospect I never liked design as much as fine arts. I have been painting on a daily basis now for around twenty years. I like the idea of being versatile with my skills, and I try not to limit myself to one particular subject matter. Having good drawing skills is important to me, and i believe it is an asset to all kinds of disciplines.
