About The Artwork

Marilyn has remained eternally frozen in the image of a charming and seductive blonde, lover of both Kennedy brothers, a woman who focuses entirely on her appearance instead on intelligence. Andy Warhol's famous serigraphs transformed her face into a mass icon, a commercial product symbol of consumerism. However, behind the scenes, Marilyn had a hard life and a very precarius mental health: her childhood was marked by an alcoholic and schizophrenic mother and by an unknown father, bouncing around from one foster care to another. She went through a series of failed marriages, the latest with playwright Arthur Miller, towards whom she always feared not to be intelligent enough.

I'm an Italian painter, I live and work in Treviso, not far from Venice, where I graduated in Architecture in the 1980s. I've worked for years in interior design, then I dedicated myself to painting. Initially, I made many portraits, designed to be harmoniously placed in the client's living environment and to personalize their home. My artistic reference was the painter Tamara De Lempicka, who gave me inspiration for my oil representation technique, using a small number of colors, with bright tones and decisive chromatic contrasts. Despite my propensity for this genre, portrait has always been the most difficult theme: as Henri Cartier Bresson said, it's a question mark placed on someone whose secret you intend to reveal. And the final result is always a surprise, an unexpected response that comes from the deep. With my daughter Sabina I share a passion for auteur cinema. Together we watch films of all ages, from Hitchcock to Billy Wilder, from Tim Burton to Wes Anderson. This is where my interest in the pictorial genre of cinema was born: I create many works, with the technique of acrylic on canvas, inspired by scenes from famous films, like "North by Northwest", "La dolce vita", "Out of Africa"... I also create metropolitan landscapes, set in different cities, like Venice, Rome, New York, San Francisco, Havana... I'm fascined by the traces of the social fabric inscribed in the face of the city and by the variety of architectural styles settled over time. Sometimes, immersing ourselves in the contemplation of a landscape, full of memories of a past journey, helps to detach from everyday life and to bring back to the present our lived experiences, as a sort of rebirth.
