This unique and colorful 10" x 8" still life oil painting on canvas is filled with wonder and delight. Not your typical still life, this painting takes a collection of objects and fruit along with decorative floral cloth and becomes something magical on canvas in it's randomness. The palette of colors are like a rainbow garden. Saturated hues in blue, green and violet meet with soft yellows, white, oranges, pinks and reds to capture the beauty of form. Strong, sensitive lines highlight the silhouettes of each object as well as the cast shadows in a way that creates a magical visual experience. Inspiration for this painting was working with the idea of "random" creation and letting objects be in a far less traditional format as a still life. It was a fun and challenging painting to work on and one I really enjoyed.

ARTISTS STATEMENT: I observe, and participate in, the change of hues. I stand alone in a perspective—influenced by the roads and detours that I’ve chosen. The subjects I interpret on canvas dance with tradition, but underneath exists an individual search for freedom. As a creator, I’ve always been interested in working with color. I see my life as having a palette of its own and I seek to have the chroma of my experiences come through in my paintings. Over time, I’ve realized the only way to achieve this goal is to risk exposure—to unveil my simplified forms to the viewer. Whether the forms operate within the context of landscape or still life, the resulting narrative is always a story of merit, regardless of public perception or understanding. BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION: I was born in Vancouver, BC in 1958 and then moved to California which is where my parents originally met. I lived there until I was 6 when my family moved across the US to New Jersey for my father's work. I grew up in a creative family and pursued art in college only to leave it upon graduation, dabbling with it over the years that followed. In 2010 I returned to painting on a more committed basis. This was spawned by some significant life changes and painting became my respite. I still reside in New Jersey and as an artist I appreciate the proximity to both Philadelphia and New York City. I've been showing my work since 2011 and continue to do so.
