About The Artwork

This artwork features rare Philippine endemic bird species, seven of which are listed critically endangered in the IUCN Red List. Most of them, the general public are not aware of. From middle top counterclockwise: Great Philippine Eagle, Sulu Racquet Tail Parrot, Walden’s Hornbill, Negros Bleeding Heart Pigeon, Red Vented Cockatoo, Isabela Oriole, Palawan Peacock Pheasant, Cebu Flowerpecker and Celestial Blue Monarch. This artwork was exhibited in "Art in Biodiversity" held at University of the Philippines, Los Banos.

Luc Valencia is a painter from Philippines based in Hong Kong. Luc discovered his passion and talent for drawing and painting only in his late teens while completing his college degree in Chemical Engineering in the University of the Philippines. Largely self-taught, he primarily paints in acrylic and oil mostly in figurative realist and surrealist style and also in impressionist/abstract styles. His paintings are characterized by vivid yet balanced colors rendered in highly detailed brush works. His favorite subjects are biodiversity, landscape, nature and people. Luc has participated in several exhibits in his University and most recently, the "Art in Biodiversity" exhibit in 2018 which featured 100+ contemporary artists in the Philippines. These days, Luc works full time as Process Safety, Risk and Environmental Consultant in Hong Kong.
