About The Artwork

Summer was slipping away, giving an urgency to documenting its last breaths - hence this piece emerged, assembled from floral prints from my garden and uniting them with beautiful vintage cotton, so gorgeous to touch. The vintage cotton panel rested on the grass and was painted with acrylic washes, just to reflect upon the skies, the sun and the last florals in my garden. Floral petals were pounded on mordanted vintage cottons, then sealed with a light coat of non-gloss acrylic spray. The fabrics were arranged in petal shapes, backed with batting or used dryer sheets. All hand-sewn. The hanging system includes a few rows of crocheted fishing line - just enough to allow some stiffness, together with some acrylic and cotton yarn painted with acrylic. The artworks hangs on a few nails/pushpins.

Poetry, music, rebellion, femininity, humour and wonder of my world reveal themselves in images, both soft and hard, always mysterious, always in layers of meaning. My stories emerge like flowers opening up their petals, one at a time, as I try to bring to light all the facets of a certain moment in time, of a beautiful memory. But in the end, or in the beginning, it's all about love. I explore painting as a connection to our human vulnerability, of which love is its ultimate manifestation. https://www.instagram.com/gone_with_chinook/
