About The Artwork

This work is an experiment in which I am trying some new paint applications. The first layer (background) was created by layering three different blues and splattering water to create a pattern in each layer. The subject has been painted in a few different ways. The marbled sections were created with paint pours, and the alternate layers were created by applying layers of paint with a scraper. The subject is an experimental origami piece.

I am a dual American and Canadian citizen living and working in Vancouver, British Columbia. I hold a BFA from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, and an MFA from the University of North Carolina. My work is realized through art historical considerations, a feminist identity, and also through personal experience. I came of age in the waning days of hippies and the Vietnam. I have witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall and the rise of global capitalism. I have lived in two countries and traveled physically and psychically to many more. I have faced and survived a life threatening disease. I remember the quaint sci-fi visions of a future that has already happened. I have found solace in the natural world and now watch it dying. All of these experiences are embedded in the work.
