About The Artwork

I aimed to evoke a sense of depth and space in an abstract manner, drawing inspiration from the colors and geometry of Harlequin costumes. This piece, like my other works, underwent various stages, starting with initial ideation, thumbnail sketching, and digital color exploration. I experimented with small gouaches, leading to the creation of the sole existing original in acrylic. The process of painting this artwork was meticulous, requiring careful consideration of the dynamics in the color choices. The project commenced in Stockholm July 2023 and reached completion at the end of October 2023. The vibrant colors in the composition create an exciting tension, truly making the work stand out and providing viewers with ample room for interpretation.

David Larsson was born in 1968 in Lulea, Sweden and is an established industrial designer MFA based in Stockholm, Sweden. He began his studies at the Art Center College of Design (ACCD) in Switzerland to later complete his studies at Umeå Institute of Design in Sweden in 1995. David's production includes limited editions of e.g. furniture, bicycles and lighting. He has received a number of international design awards for his design. In the early 2000s, David began experimenting with painting, mainly in acrylic and gouache, but also with screen-printing, as a natural development of his design work. One can discern a desire to reach beyond the two-dimensional. David works primarily in a purely geometric and non-figurative style where composition, color and perspective are important components in his work. The three-dimensional space is a central starting point for David's art. One can imagine influences in his work from e.g. Olle Baertling, but also elements from Victor Vasarelis perspective world.
