Six years ago, I came across these internet "meme" images. They made a strong impression on me, and I started thinking about whether they could be considered art. While I recognized their importance, I also knew they didn't fit the usual definition of good taste. When I shared my idea with my wife, she thought it would be a “waste of canvas”. Her comment made me realize that I didn't want to create something that looked like traditional art. I wanted it to be absurd and go against the norms of art yet still have cultural meaning. The challenge was how to turn these images into paintings while keeping their unique qualities intact. After leaving the images aside for six years, I revisited them and found that they still had a powerful impact. They were still funny and absurd, and their underlying messages were even clearer. These will be a series of paintings for the next couple of years.
