Take a step back in time to the enchanting era of 19th-century book illustrations, known as the Golden Age of Illustration, with "I Robbed The Woods." This watercolor painting pays homage to the era when artistry and imagination transformed literature into living, breathing works of art. Within this captivating piece, a world unfolds amidst towering birch trunks. Vigorous black ink lines lend depth and perspective to the scene, drawing you into the heart of the woodland. The sharp outlining and bold, flat tints of black create a vibrant contrast, infusing life into the grayscale landscape. Yet, the true protagonist of this narrative is an enigmatic red fox, its fur a fiery beacon in a world of monochromatic beauty. The vivid use of red not only captivates the eye but also weaves a compelling story, establishing the fox as the undisputed star of this piece. The title, "I Robbed The Woods," borrowed from a poem by Emily Dickinson, adds a layer of poetic depth to this artwork. It beckons you to explore the realms of art, literature, and imagination. She is an emerging artist inspired by color and nature, creating works where even the smallest things have their place. She employs classic techniques as watercolor to achieve the immediacy and spontaneity of the medium and oil to create subtle color harmonies, relatively static compositions and simple forms, to make up imaginary, dreamlike landscapes, sometimes as taken from children's books. Following Walter Benjamin’s thoughts, she always tries to give the ‘aura’ to her works, that is, investing an object with human qualities and emotions, where the painting value will come largely from its exclusivity. Her paintings and illustrations hang in private collections around the world.
