About The Artwork

This is an animal that lives in the fantastical jungle of your imagination. When he wobbles he moves his eyes from one side of the face to another. My work is usually inspired by creatures I see in my dreams. I really don't know where they come from to tell you the truth, they just show up in my paintings. I love the colors on this painting, the browns and the pinks remind me a of a chocolate cupcake with pink icing. The words tell a story of a song. Pay attention to the creature and you might hear it :)

A mixed media artist, whose passion for the creation of creatures/ monsters burbling up from the subconscious signify Claudia Segovia’s prolific art practice, she has been creating art since childhood. Diplomas in Fine Art and Graphic Design from the Emily Carr Diploma program gives her the formal structure that offers her work control allowing the wild nature of the imaginative creatures to play. Born in England to a Spanish, chemist father, whose artistic past times included opera, he was also a fabulous piano player. Her Mexican mother trained as a dancer but her career as a dolphin and brain researcher saw the family living in different parts of Mexico, Los Angeles and Spain. As a child, her art practice and ballet classes were a constant. After high school, she attended and graduated from the National Centre for the Arts in Mexico City with a degree in Contemporary Dance Choreography. In 1997, she moved to Vancouver,Canada. A creature maker in three dimensional soft fabrics, paintings and drawings, an art and dance teacher, a choreographer, a mother and a dog lover, Claudia is passionate about the value of honouring the artistic spirit and nourishing the physical body with healthy choices.
