About The Artwork

As an artist I have tried to create a portrait of a lady in a veil, that captures her beauty and her inner conflict. The lady's strict adherence to societal norms is symbolized by the veil she wears, which conceals much of her face and body. However, I seek to convey her desire to explore and experience the world beyond those norms. I have chosen to focus on the lady's eyes, recognizing them as the window to her soul and the key to her hidden desires. By using a small amount of charcoal, I have outlined the delicate contours of her face, allowing her eyes to stand out and draw the viewer's attention. The eyes are portrayed with full oil paint, providing a rich and vibrant texture that adds depth and intensity to the artwork. The choice of wood as the material to paint on. Through this composition, I have tried to convey the lady's struggle between conforming to societal expectations and her yearning to break free and explore the world. The emphasis on her eyes invites viewers to contemplate her inner thoughts and emotions, creating a sense of intrigue and connection

I was born in India but later after my husband retired from the Navy as an admiral, we were posted in Canada as Indian Ambassador. After visiting all over the world met various artists and saw many exhibitions. As an artist I found passion in painting and have explored various mediums, starting with computer-based art and eventually transitioning to oil painting. I was inspired by a good friend Anjolie Ela Menon who is a world-famous Artist. She encouraged me and under her, I learned a lot about the finer points of painting. My preferred genres of realism and figurative art allow me to bring an unique perspective and views on the world to life through artwork. I try to express my thoughts, emotions, and observations through my artistic creations. Art has the power to convey messages, evoke emotions, and spark conversations. Through art, I am able to communicate my views on the ever-changing world around us, both it's beauty and it's faults. My journey through as a naval spouse, my responsibilities towards the naval community, and later as my spouse rose in rank, I got deeply involved with a large community residing in rural India and their traditional arts. This contributed immensely to my growth as an artist. Now I am settled in the USA and enjoying my painting, for me, it is a meditation and gives me a lot of tranquility.
