About The Artwork
The scene is the sun giving a last lick of light on this swiss mountain peak. The warmth of the sunlight is portrayed next to the blueness of the mountain enveloped in a deep blue shadow. The reference for this painting was taken by Matt when holidaying in the mountains near Sion, Southern Switzerland. Matt used a naturalistic style with a mix of loose and tightly controlled brush strokes. The shadows are more loosely rendered in thin paint, while the highlights are done in a higher chroma, and more tightly rendered with thicker paint application.
