About The Artwork

I was inspired to make this piece due to my body image problems and eating disorder. Many of my pieces are in a figurative sense helping me to be more body positive. Through painting various womens bodies I have learned the beauty of all the shapes and sizes. The beauty in the imperfection. I hope it can inspire and encourage other women to see this beauty too. I chose to do this one from behind because i'm at a point in my life where I have finally after 10 years am recovering from my eating disorder and in a sense leaving it behind. I've finally cut out toxic relationships from my life and begun to take care of myself. This to me is a painting of new beginnings of leaving all that behind, all my fears, worries, and anger. The style to me is very lovely and unique with the blue tones that promotes a feeling of calm and hope for me. I hope it can bring positive feelings to the buyer as well. I enjoy doing simple shapes, as I am a newer artist and self taught. I chose acrylic, gauche, and pastel because I love how they feel putting on a canvas. I am autistic and enjoy the sensory aspect of painting. Therefore I choose pastel to start with a nice chalky feeling and then mix acrylic/gauche to paint. These are such pleasant sensory experiences for me. I hope this catches the right buyer who can appreciate the value of the story behind this painting as well as the piece itself.

My artwork represents my personal journey towards self-discovery and recovery from mental health struggles, particularly my eating disorder. Initially, I drew inspiration from the female form, seeking to challenge societal standards of beauty through representational art. However, as my recovery progressed, my creative focus shifted towards expressive work, utilizing my emotions as a tool for self-expression. My creative process involves immersing myself in music that resonates with me, selecting a medium that aligns with my mood, and allowing my unconscious mind to guide my hand. I utilize colors that evoke positive emotions and experiment with various tools to create textures and lines which are in fact my innermost feelings through mark making. My artwork reflects the struggles I have faced with anxiety, depression, and autism, yet consistently emerges as something beautiful and distinctive. Through my art, I aim to challenge societal perceptions of mental health and autism, demonstrating that there is beauty in these struggles and they need not be stigmatized. Ultimately, my work serves as a representation of the transformative power of art as a means of healing and self-expression. I hope to inspire others to embrace their own struggles and to find beauty and strength in their journey towards recovery.
