Lion Woman. Inspired by Elisabeth Schmid's reconstruction of the Lowenmensch figurine, a 40,000 year old lion-headed figurine carved from mammoth tusk with a prominent navel and pubic triangle often argued to be male. Also inspired by Marija Gimbutas' writings about the symbology of Old Europe, and by Layne Redmond's book, When the Drummers Were Women. I believe the lion-headed figure represents a female shaman, who would have danced joyfully to the sound of her frame drum.

I explore stories, history (and herstory), and beliefs through art. I was born in a cold snowy mining town in the middle of nowhere. I now paint in the suburbs of Philadelphia. Visit my website at www.echoingmultiverse.com
