About The Artwork

Having studied tonal values in previous paintings and drawings, I wanted to use and develop this skill further. I chose to produce a painting of Marilyn Monroe due to her iconic look. I was certainly inspired by Andy Warhol's silkscreen paintings, whilst adding my own interpretation to the image. My aim was to convey her personality with her hair radiating forwards, against a backdrop of turquoise blue skies. The shades of pink and yellow allowed me to give a sense of depth and three-dimensionality to the painting, which provides a simplified and bold result. Deep Edge Canvas Size (approx.): 16 x 12 x 1.25 inches.

I am Sian Pritchard, a predominantly self-taught artist, with experience of studying fine art at undergraduate level. My background is varied, having studied for a BSc degree in Biology and Geography, and recently an MSc in Computer Science. I have always enjoyed spending time developing my artistic skills alongside these subjects. I mostly work with paint, inks and digital media. My works concentrate on colour and tone, with each piece designed to produce a bold effect. I have worked with acrylics for a number of years. This became one of my favoured mediums, due its versatility. Experimenting with mixed media allows me to make further discoveries as I work. My designs are generally planned, rather than instant, but more ideas develop whilst I am working on a project. I gain inspiration from a variety of contemporary and traditional artists. I particularly like pop art, impressionist and art deco works, and am currently concentrating on combining these styles. I prefer to work in bright colours, and I consider this combination carefully in advance.
