About The Artwork
One of my first paintings in Mijas Pueblo, this little street leads down to the post office and market, it looks very different these days, but this painting brings back lots of happy memories. painted in watercolour it was also used by New York Times best selling author Victoria Twead for the cover of her book Two Old Fools in Spain Again. I am inspired by nature and architecture. I live in North Yorkshire, so it's easy to find both those on my doorstep. Painting has always given me a sense of solace, my peaceful place. I paint things that take my eye, it might be a glint of sunlight on water or the reflection of a tree on a still pond. My paintings bring back memories for me, of special places, holidays and loved ones no longer with us. Art has that power, I think like music, we can be spirited back to a moment in the past by a song or a painting. I was born on a farm in 1959, I had a wonderful childhood outside from first light to tea time. I'm sure that's where my love of nature and animals came from.
