About The Artwork

This work was inspired by the Edgar Allen Poe poem The Raven. I imagined that this would have been a view of his table after he perhaps made peace with the bird and kept it as a pet! I think that it makes a happy ending from a somber poem.

Lisa Marie was raised by professional jazz and classical musicians Ronald and Bonnie Modell, and her love of art was fostered at an early age with piano and ballet lessons. She experienced a cultural atmosphere uncommon to most, as she grew up around celebrities like Dizzy Gilespie and many others. As she grew older, it was apparent that the visual arts were her medium of expression. She was drawing portraits of the family and pets from age 8 or so, and by high school, was reproducing Van Gogh's works in pastel, as well as creating her own. A dream of hers had always been to visit the world's most famous art museums to round out her education, which was thankfully realized just prior to the Covid pandemic. She was able to peruse the Louvre and Musee Orsay in Paris, the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh's museum in Amsterdam, and even witness Banksy's work in person. A true artist in every sense of the word, normalcy has escaped her. She has this to say about her temperment," I can so totally relate to artists like Van Gogh, and even literary masters like Hemingway. Their particular struggles, I am certain, come from a different brain than the average, and it is not easy to live with." Life has gotten in the way of her pursuit of her talent, but, fortunately, the time has come for Lisa Marie to follow her dreams of becoming a collected artist.
