About The Artwork

Nine Billion - Acrylic on canvas Inspiration: "Nine Billion" actually depicts a timeline. Since humans (as we know them) having been around for a couple hundred thousand years or so, the worlds population hit one billion people sometime in 1804. We grew to two billion in 1927, three billion in 1959, four in 1974, five in 1987, six in '99, and seven in 2013. The United Nations has estimated that the world population will likely reach nine billion by 2050. Many scientists believe that Earth's resources can support a maximum population of nine billion. Therefore, humans are at a sort of crossroads concerning their relationship with their planet. Will we come up with balanced solutions that will allow future generations to live an flourish on the rock? Or will we flare out in a ball of light? Most likely our destiny is to fall on something in between. It's just something to think about and is of little consequence to me. I'm strictly here as an observer. Series: Living Sphere - This collection of images reflects my impressions of our planet and it's inhabitants. Some personal, some general. Some hopeful, some dismal - all honest.

Traditionally trained and a surrealist at heart, I paint from concepts, dreams and the constant stream of imagery that flows through my consciousness. I avoid figurative subjects unless they play a requisite role in a concept. I find abstract work a much more direct expression of intimate emotions and sensations, as well as a better conduit to convey them to others. Whether it be triumph or desperation, tranquility or risk, visual context and provoked feelings are left to the interpretation of the viewer.
