Spiritually inspired portrait of Sebastião Mota de Melo, “Padrinho Sebastião”. “While I was creating this painting, a little bird visited me, entered my studio and hovered over my head for a few minutes. And there I felt the presence of Padrinho himself. ” (BS) This was one of the first oil paintings by the artist who accompanied him in his training and to which he devoted three years to completion. Encouraged by Eduardo Camões (his former teacher), this same painting represented him at the art contest of Clube Naval do Rio de Janeiro. The work was about to be eliminated from the competition, having the judges doubted the suitability of his work, considering that it was painted over a photograph due to the perfection and technique.The suspicion was, however, dispelled with the testimony of Camões, who, in addition to being knowledgeable about the technique of his disciple, attested through expertise to the authenticity of the work. In the end this curious fact only added even more carisma to this painting. * Retrato de inspiração espiritual de Sebastião Mota de Melo, “Padrinho Sebastião”. “Enquanto pintava este quadro um passarinho me visitou, entrou no meu ateliê e ficou a sobrevoar a minha cabeça durante um tempo. Dessa forma eu senti a presença do próprio Padrinho. ” (BS) Esta foi uma das primeiras pinturas a óleo do artista que o acompanhou na sua formação e à qual dedicou três anos até à conclusão. incentivado por Eduardo Camões (seu antigo professor) Bê participou no concurso de pintura do Clube Naval com esta mesma pintura. Facto curioso, o Júri esteve prestes a eliminar a obra do concurso duvidando da idoneidade da mesma, achando que o trabalho teria sido pintado por cima de fotografia dada a perfeição e técnica que apresenta. A suspeita foi contudo desfeita com o testemunho de Camões, que além de conhecedor do trabalho do seu aluno, atestou através de perícia a autenticidade da obra. Facto que por fim a tornou ainda mais carismática.
