About The Artwork

The 'Old Oshodi Market' is one of the biggest market in Lagos Nigeria which attract tourist all over the world, this section of the market is situated right on the rail track and that was what inspired me to do a painting on this popular Oshodi Market. This is a very busy market with lots of people buy and selling, and you will be greatly amazed the way this market will get dismantled by the sound of the train horn, within some minutes before the train get to pass through the market. This traders are very resilient to any form of circumstances that present its self each day, the do or die Nigeria attitude, survival of the fittest. One will ask why are they trading on the dangerous rail track that some times lead to death, they simply want to survive the day to day life, has they don't have the money to rent a shop in the prime Oshodi market they then results to trading on the rail track. My major aim for this painting which I hope its viewer will feel that feeling of this women and what they have to go through daily for them to be able to take care of their individual family respectively in this rugged terrain. I choose this medium to express my feelings for this subject matter because is the best way for me to express every details and emotions that I have for this work and I use pallet knife to apply my colours on the canvas to best achieve my desires which I believe I successfully achieve impressionistic way.
