This is one of ten paintings in a series called human nature, Oxalis has a special meaning, even though Oxalis is considered as a weed, from that weed a beautiful flower grows. This series has a deeper meaning than just flowers on a body, the idea behind the series is to show our deep connection to nature and how nature can be our nurturer. It also represents a spiritual connection that emphasizes personal growth, reminding us that we can tap into the nature of joyfulness, gentleness and prosperity during difficult and harsh times, or when we are struggling within. This spiritual connection we have with nature, can transform our pain into growth, as we blossom into stronger, more fulfilled and confident human beings. Flowers are more than just a pretty picture, they have meaning and symbolize something deeper. Nature is one of God's beautiful creations. Through nature, God is able to teach us, to speak to us and to provide us with the beauty of hope in times of despair.

Australia
Born in South African, Shalanda is now based in Geelong Australia, she began to create art seriously four years ago. Most of her work is in Acrylics, she also enjoys printmaking and sketching. She holds a Certificate IV in Visual Arts from the Gordon Tafe Australia, but is mostly self-taught. Shalanda has a great affinity for children and the elderly, and is presently a part-time nanny, which allows her the flexibility to focus on her art. The principle theme in her work is nature and the human body, and how these two connect. Both these elements are reflected in her paintings and printmaking. Her art depicts past natural healing and spiritual growth, which have molded her into the artist she is today. She continues to experiment with different mediums and styles to try and capture the soul of the subject, and how nature is part of who we are and can be. Her paintings reflect the pain of everyday life overcome through having a deep connection to God from where she draws her inspiration and strength. What follows is beautiful and breathtaking, like a new branch bearing fruit from an old root.
