In this pose, the model, Piers, is reclining with the majority of his weight supported on his left arm. The overall impression we get from the pose is one of stability and confidence, created in part by the strong 90 degree angle formed from the left shoulder to the elbow and the forearm that runs through the hips, accompanied by the model’s wavy hair and strong, youthful appearance. The twist in the hips and upper body give a level of dynamism without losing it's solid nature. I was working with black gouache on white coloured paper and using one brush, went with a very strong blocky line, once again changing how much Gouache I applied so as to be able to add softer marks with a dry brush effect as well as dark, contrasting, bold strokes. It was done in Portland, OR in a small atelier where a few people gather once a week for figure drawing. All of my figure drawings are from life - no photos were used at any point in their fabrication. The model is in front of you and you have a definite amount of time to get down as much information as you can or see fit. Because of this, each drawing is truly unique and a complete one of a kind, containing a spontaneity that can never be duplicated through photo inspired drawings/paintings. This piece has already been acquired but is available as a print.

English/French Character Animator that has worked on animated feature films, 'Nimona', 'Missing Link', 'The Secret Life of Pets', 'Minions', and many more over the last 16 years. Figure/Life Drawing is my passion and as well as being something I take great pleasure in doing, also has a very beneficial impact on my professional work in terms of anatomy, weight, movement and posing. When drawing the human figure I love using shadow to create volume and depth, I love trying to capture the weight and movement in an anatomically correct and yet loose manner, and above all, I love finding little attentions to detail that capture the essence of the model, especially around the face. I have lived across 3 different European countries and the US, and am now living in London, UK.
