Reconnecting with The Dancing “Miss Joaquim”s Why we always seek the people who knew us when we were young and reckless. The people you meet as adults meet you at your best. Heidi Priebe 2015 There is a rawness to the friendships we form when we are young that can never be rivalled. It’s a relief to know that no matter where we go in life or who we find ourselves holding onto, there are people out there who we will forever be unable to fool. Heidi Priebe 2015 Based on a true friendship story. A group of mid-forties women searched for their school friends after 30 years. Separated due to their migration from Malaysia to Singapore in the early 90s and only managed to trace back each other in their mid-forties. Hibiscus is the national flower of Malaysia. A hybrid orchid called Vanda “Miss Joaquim” is the national flower of Singapore. The reconnection brings back memories of childhood and school days. The painting depicts strong connection between them even though separated by many years. After climbing career ladders, the realization dawned on them that friends that they meet during adulthood meet them at their best but friends they made during childhood and adolescence knew them during their raw state. Still being carved and chiseled in their process of forming opinion about the world around them. The painting is in the present, now. Both sides poised and graceful like their national flowers reconnecting after many years. Having roots reaching out to each other with love and mutual respect.

Malaysia
An Architect by training, I live in Shah Alam, Malaysia. A mother of 4 adorable kids. I started painting using watercolor at the age of 6. Moved on to oil painting at 16. I did my Architecture degree and Post Graduate Diploma in Nottingham University, UK. While working as an architect, I continued to paint and had my paintings sold for The Ascott hotel & residency in Kuala Lumpur. My style is impressionism and I love bold colours, strong strokes giving long lasting impression of the scenery or the place. Once in a while I will tilt towards expressionism and experiment on issues which are close to my heart.
