Remembrance Day Torpoint Print

This image is from the Remembrance Day service at Torpoint in Cornwall (November 11, 2018). As far as I know and it certainly looked that way, the motorcyclists are ex-service men and women. It was a beautiful crisp morning. There was an ambiguity in the air, the conformism of the brass band, the rebellious aspect of the motorcyclists. Everyone had their own reason for being there but there was only one reason to be there. Idea: I am interested in the truth of Photography and the magic of a photograph. The photograph is my starting point, but I'm approaching it as a painter. I'm interested to see what I can do to it, how far can I transform it, how much can I; alter, bend, or reaffirm it's truth, and into what? Subjects: I choose "real life" subjects from my photo-diary; friends and the things we do, places I've been to, things I've seen and done. My everyday life. Technique: My Paintographs are, a painting and a photograph. They start of as a Photograph but I have a painterly eye so they always have drawing/painting as a root. The photo is then post processed to "wash it out", removing colours and details, and printed. I use the printed photograph as my "canvas" and paint or draw directly onto it. The Object: A sheet of A3+(42.9x30.5cm), 350gsm watercolour paper. (Archival inks, paper and paint, always!) The image has a wide margin (min 4cm) there is nothing on the margin of relevance, you can, if you wish, have it cut to size as you want. initialed and dated with the year discreetly on the face and signed on the back.
