Subject: Cerro San Cristobal, Santiago, Chile Description: This watercolor painting captures the essence of Santiago, Chile's urban landscape and its natural surroundings. In the midground, the lush greenery of Cerro San Cristobal contrasts with the hard edges and sharp forms of the surrounding buildings. The Gran Torre Santiago, the tallest building in South America, reaches up beside the hill symbolizing humanity's triumph over nature. The painting captures the interdependence between the urban and natural ecosystems as the tendrils of trees and vegetation reach into the surrounding buildings. The hill is painted in a more loose, painterly style with limited linework, showcasing the freedom and fluidity of watercolor, while the buildings are depicted with precise detail. With its vibrant colors and intricate details, this painting captures the dynamic and complex relationship between the city and its natural surroundings. Process: Plein-air drawing, painted in studio.
