About The Artwork

"Rolling" series was born in my mind long time ago during our hiking trip to the mountains of Uzbekistan. Melting snow on the top of the mountain, freezing nights and hot days, icy cold water in the Ugum river, bonfires.. I never knew before this trip that it's much more difficult and dangerous to go down of the mountain then go up on it. It's unbelievably beautiful out there especially because you have this feeling of remarkable achievement of doing something extraordinary. Thank you for visiting my studio. Have a great day!

I’m a Russian abstract artist living in sunny South Africa. In the 1970s and 80s, I studied art and design in Moscow, in the former Soviet Union. After a long career as an interior designer, antique furniture restorer, and art dealer, I decided to share my own paintings with the world. I opened the Zhanna Abstract studio in 2017, where I create and teach art full time. I was always fascinated with abstract art and its ability to express emotions through color. I’m a huge fan of Kandinsky’s color theory, the idea that colors affect us on an intuitive, primal level. My art is a constant collaboration with gravity, randomness, luck itself. I choose where the painting starts, and then I have to let go. I hope my pieces give you the same sense of playful freedom that I feel when creating them.
