About The Artwork
I began this piece using, as reference, a picture I had taken in Colorado of a house that stood out in the bright sunlight. As it developed, certain characteristics developed: the nip in the air, the wandering clouds and vibrant sky, the gritty earth, bringing you back down. Completed over several weeks during a residency near the ocean, I let what was around me inform what was, at first, a pretty basic drawing of a house. That meant letting rocks and stone, burnt wood and twisty beach branches, dirt, grit, and all sorts of objects wander in and find their place, if they had one. As it was nearing the end, I worked to strike the exact right balance between solid, grounded architecture and dreamy, exuberant, free-floating near abstract elements. _________ **Part of the 'Structures' series.***
