About The Artwork

This piece is inspired by both Malaysian and South Korean influences, to express the friendship between South Korea and Malaysia. This is one out of three pieces created specially for an exhibition at the Korean-Malaysian Festival, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Feb 2018. This original piece has been sold to an Australian buyer but you can buy a print of it. This painting is inspired by Shin Yun-bok’s Portrait of a Beauty Below is a poem for this painting, which will be hand-written for the buyer. Crossing the sea, this portrait of beauty cradles her Joseon dreams in the palms of hope, spilling into Sarawak curlicues. She floats between clouds, discovering paths everywhere she goes in this new land, unveiling spiralling colours. Bumping into Koi fishes with hornbill horns, she sweeps them up, carries them on her hanbok. They swim persistently, tugging her along untouched waters. She wonders, where would this take her?

I am a poet and visual artist with a background in Fashion. My visual artworks are inspired by my life experiences, culture, travels, people I meet and my own spiritual discoveries. Explorations of life observations along with my vivid imaginations are thrown into acrylic and mixed media in my paintings. Black and white ink illustrations are also one of my favourites; utilising lines and patterns to invent stories. As of recent, I like to re-visit my fashion days by combining textile techniques such as beading with painting. I am currently the Secretary of Sarawak Artists Society. I sell most of my creations online and by commissions; occasionally paired with poetry by request. Some of my pieces now reside in homes across the globe in countries like Brunei, Singapore, Cambodia, Indonesia, South Korea, Philippines, Australia, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Saudi Arabia, India, Venezuela, Spain, Ireland, UK, Germany, France, Egypt and United States. As a poet, I have performed and read in Malaysia, South Korea, South Africa, Botswana, UK, Australia, India and Egypt with some poems translated into Malayalam, Japanese and Arabic. My works have been published online and in print including several poetry festival anthologies. I will hand-write each poem paired with the paintings here.
