About The Artwork

This artwork was painted in May of 2020, and was inspired by the burst of colour that comes with this month's array of flourishing flora. While living in Dublin, Ireland, I often spent my walks home gazing at the sky towards St. Patrick's Cathedral. While the road and buildings were never changing, the sky always morphed into something new and beautiful. With this in mind, I aimed to combine both sentiments together into a harmonious painting. Painted using a butter knife and paintbrushes. Original artwork, gloss varnish, edges are painted black.

My name is Kristine Gargaritano and I am an artist from Toronto, Canada. As a medical student and as a painter, I am passionate when it comes continuous learning as well as fostering creativity. My paintings are inspired by places in which I have travelled around the world and I aim to encapsulate the feeling of those moments in my artwork. The process of creating art for me has always been centred around the experience of playing with colour and light. I like the way that colours peak through gaps in the overlying layers, adding another dimension to the relationships between existing colours within a given painting. This is what art means to me: Exploration. Exploration of colour, exploration of the world, and of course, exploration of the viewer's eye within the world that I've created on a canvas.
