~Summer Sunset~ Oil on canvas, 24x36 inch. This impressionist piece depicts a fiery sunset of the South Australian outback. The piece deliberately omits foreground perspective, allowing the eye of the viewer to search the intricate clouds; further emphasizing the separation of the uncomplicated land, from the ephemeral sky. Although painted en plein air in the Australian outback, the act of painting was inspired by a passage from Jack Kerouac's famous counter-cultural icon, 'On the Road': 'Soon it got dusk, a grapy dusk, a purple dusk over tangerine groves and long melon fields; the sun the color of pressed grapes, slashed with burgandy red, the fields the color of love and Spanish mysteries.' The passage signified for me that the intense drive for freedom, and yearning to satisfy all the uninhibited needs of the human soul is merely an anthropomorphism of the physical realities of the shapes and colour of the world around us. To discriminate and divide the world we experience internally and externally is to waste our own humanity, and the harmony of allowing these waters to mix. Although everybody views art from a different perspective, I hope that the painting can evoke emotion from those who view it, it was certainly painted in that way. The piece is moderate in size (24'x36'), and depending on framing and lighting, could either serve as a focal point in a room or as decoration. For any further information please message me.

Australia
My name is Michael Nicholson, and I am a 21 year old artist from Adelaide, Australia. I have been painting for around 5 years, without any formal training. I attended secondary school at St. Peter's College, and am finishing degrees in Law and Media at the University of Adelaide. Because I have had no institutional training, my art remains quite experimental, both within individual pieces, but also across my portfolio as a whole. I draw inspiration from the beautiful Australian landscape, but also from many other artists. My favourites include Andrew Salgado, Casey Baugh, Francoise Nielly, Ben Quilty and Thomas Moran. If you have any inquiries please feel free to message me, or comment on any of my pieces. Thanks, I hope you enjoy my work!
