About The Artwork

The painting The Artist is a personal reflection of these questions I'm studying about absurdism, through which I relate the anguish of the artist against the emptiness of the world, with the fundamental problem that it evokes, in the ambiguous sense of representing, through art, the pathos of indifference. The question in this case is about the artist's position on life: the artist does not need to value anything. Friedrich Nietzsche thus circumscribed what he called pathos of distance. Men in general are incapable of not evaluating; It is part of the human condition to value and create value. Contemporary man is moral and does not distance himself. The indifference that is praised here is not premeditated disdain, much less the blasé attitude, and even less what is done in the modern culture of discarding. Indifference, as Émile Cioran affirms, has to do with something that does not need to be consciously assumed, since it is the pathos of distance, a position before the world.
