About The Artwork

I am inspired by Klimt piling bodies together to represent many facets of humanity, of women in particular; and also the friendship and support. I began this painting just placing the bodies in relation to each other. Paintings of a sole person can look lonely. Then I had to decide between an environment of clouds or a garden. I had a flash that they were in the sky removed from the sharp angles of the city, that they were safe in a soft world of clouds. I painted the city and felt sorry for all the men down there that maybe deserved to be with the goddesses, so I made an airplane for them. Maybe a few will make it. My husband wanted to look up three sisters to see if they were myth already. We were surprised that they were known to the Greeks and Romans as The Furies, who judged mankind. This painting also confirmed a new technique that I will be using frequently. It was a success on many levels.

www.amandascottart.com When I am not creating art I am daydreaming about it. I imagine each step while I go about my day cleaning or working. I'll get flashes of images to paint. Some days I get several at once. I keep a sketchbook handy to draw out the ideas. I feel like I never have enough time. I have been creating work for 20 years, selling it for 10. I have paintings in private collections world wide. I paint figurative, realistic, portraits of women; usually with some surrealist bent. My focus is identity, especially of women. Reality as we see it. The truth underneath the approved story of society. I seek my own freedom and hope to become liberated through my chosen discipline. I paint primarily in oil on board or canvas. I am an explorer, not a crafts person. I get bored with repeating "what works", so I try new ideas all the time. There are thousands of ways to make a painting. Taking different paths lead me to new places.
