Depicting the awe one feels when gazing at a display of Northern Lights illuminating the sky. I wanted to capture the immensity that moment can bring. This piece was made using both traditional painting techniques while incorporating elements using digital technology. I have deliberately chosen the road less traveled in life. For five years in my early 20’s I lived ‘off the grid’ in a small one room cabin at the end of a half mile trail shared with bears and cougars. I had no running water, hydro or telephone and didn’t drive. This was a challenge when I also had two children under the age of five. However, it taught me a lot about nature, silence, adversity and the resiliency of the human spirit. For the last 37 years I have lived on a remote island off the coast of British Columbia Canada. This quiet oasis allows me to be silent and let the land speak.
