About The Artwork
A dead tree stands alone in a field, gnarled, broken branches still pointing skyward. This tree stood in a field near where I live. Its lumpy, broken shape always fascinated me when I would walk past so, of course, I had to paint it. More than once in fact. And I’ll probably paint it again at some point. Alas, these will be the only records of the tree’s existence as its rotten trunk gave out in bad weather last year and it has crumbled away to fragments. I wanted to choose colours that seemed to reflect the tree's warped nature, how it stood at odds with everything around it.
