About The Artwork
This work belongs to the Black and White series, although on this occasion the white is replaced by shades of green. It is based on popular science readings that Andrews is so passionate about and interested in. The concept of time and space is captured in this minimalist work made with black pigments dissolved in thin layers of casein glue that Andrews applies to achieve different intensities and transparencies, also the background of the canvas is treated to give a luminosity based on the white zink pigment. Here Andrews began by applying white and replaced it with green, as a nod to nature and the time and space that contains and contemplates us. Annabel Andrews was born in the Isle of Wight in 1940 now lives and works in El Escorial near Madrid Spain, where the colour, light and volumes of the mountains inspire her work. As also her friendship with the late Spanish artists Pablo Palazuelo and Jose Guerrero. By preparing her own canvases with home made casein glue base and zinc white the work is light and luminous ready for applying acrylic colours.
