About The Artwork

"Treasure Hunt" is an original "Impression Realism" oil painting where the composition is a combination of impressions meant to create a new experience for the viewer. An impression which is not just two dimensional, a mere window on the world...but everything that is felt and perceived in the moment. An impression is not just what is seen but also the personal feeling which arises, the interpretation of the experience on an individual basis. An impression is a kind of food, food for thought and feeling and "Impression Realism" tries to share the initial experience through the actual painting. This painting proposes multiple choices or footpaths which all lead in the same direction, to the same objective...to the same aim...to find a meaning for the search. What is the treasure, where is it to be found? If the castle would be the reason, why is it abandoned, empty as shown by the view of the sea through the window. What resides in emptiness but silence. Silence is the objective of the painting.

I began to paint in oils at the age of 10 years old and, after 54 years working, now begin to really feel that something can be achieved. Why did it take so long? Understanding the technique is one thing but motif is another. I call my paintings "Impression Realism" as they all grow out of an initial impression which develops itself into a kind of vision, representing an experience. The motifs find me, call me and demand to be depicted. I have often felt lucky to not have gotten involved in commercial production and so have worked with great freedom and the kind of success which comes from selling without depending on anything else but the actual painting. I hope that they will be enjoyed!
