Triangle Shirt Factory Fire Print

This is a painting that has continuously intrigued me. I was asked to do a backdrop for a state history competition. I researched the event and printed out some black and white copies to work from.....I began sketching out some tables and planned primarily grey, light grey and charcoal colors to elicit the feeling of a burned room. What happened next is the part of painting that excites me....the images just began to appear...twisted pale bodies rising out of the antique sewing machines....simple abstract beings whose faces were larger rising out of their earthly forms. The owners of the factory appeared in dark hats and coats with long thin hands floating out of their sleeves. The opening of the factory is engulfed in yellow orange flames and the door is chained with a hot metal link chain. The women are chalk white and bluish indicating spirits that have succumbed to the horrific fire.
