The winter sunshine highlights the wonderful colours in the Yorkshire landscape at this time of the year. A bright, low January sun highlights the warm browns and yellows of bare branches and hedgerows, contrasting with the cool hues of the road and powder blue sky. I hope this painting evokes memories of the beauty of the landscape in the midst of winter when the sun does shine, lifting our spirits after many dull and drab days, maybe inspiring a walk along a quiet track where you can connect and feel at one with nature. The painting features expressive brush strokes and is painted in artist quality oil paints on a rigid quality canvas board and varnished for protection. Signed on the front, the work comes with a certificate of authenticity and is sold unframed, allowing you to choose the frame to suit your interior.

I'm a British landscape artist based in North Yorkshire in the UK. I work primarily on location in oils working quickly to capture the essence of the scene working wet into wet Painting on location is a thrill which heightens all my senses. It allows me to study and capture the subtle shifts in colour, light and shadow as the landscape changes and progresses through the seasons. My childhood was filled with art and drawing and I have always been drawn to the beauty of nature and the landscape. This evolved into a career as a graphic designer where I was able to use my creativity in another direction, but in 2007 I became transfixed with the work of David Hockney and his body of work in East Yorkshire. It awoke the dormant artist in me and presented the landscape in a new way which I resonated with. A year later we moved to a small village at the foot of the North York Moors National Park where I was surrounded by the captivating and beautiful countryside. I began drawing initially using the iPad to observe and renew my drawing skills. Using the strengths I had developed as a designer I used my compositional abilities and colour skills to develop my technique. I soon picked up the paintbrush as I felt the need to work with a more tactile medium and so began working directly on location to hone my observational skills and technique, soon discovering the challenges but sheer fulfillment of plein air painting! I feel it brings a spontaneity and freshness to my brush work which then informs my technique when I'm painting in the studio. As you look into the possibility of owning one of my artworks, I wholeheartedly desire that it becomes a cherished treasure—a source of profound and enduring inspiration which has made a connection on some personal level and one which enriches your life not only now but for countless years to come.
