Part of a collection exploring the theme of 'Innocence'. This piece shows a young child captivated by something floating above her. Inspired by my own daughter, bringing new life into a changing world, aware of and trying to capture and keep her innocence for as long as possible. This is a conceptual piece perhaps her innocence which enables her to truly see what is there without rationalisation, or is it her imagination. There is portal to another place, a place of wonder & innocence. Strength of colour has been created in the background using several layers of different oil colours the child has a delicate & ethereal quality to her. A throne like Louis XV chair grounds the composition & the white charcoal lines spotlight fine detail features.

Born in South London, son to an artist, I grew up with the smell of turpentine, an ever changing wall of paintings & visiting art dealers. I picked up how to draw & paint from my father the old school way. Wanting to find my own style led me to sculpture & installation art followed by study at the London Design School. A successful career in luxury niche furniture design followed, winning several British & International awards as furniture is usable sculpture to me. Now I sketch naturally in preference to note taking & have an instinctive desire to create. I have travelled extensively & learnt to sail opening up my eyes to everything around me. Now I’m painting daily in my own studio in Notting Hill. I've had formal classical training in painting & now experimenting with manipulating materials. I understand form and construction from my past & with painting I like to construct & deconstruct, my art is built not just painted; from sourcing materials, mixing paints, making papers & constructing the canvas frames. My media preference is oils as the fluidity gives me unhindered movement with a beautiful rich finish. Abstraction & conceptualism influences my work, different layers like worlds open up and recede leaving distorted traces and removing beauty to wanted planes.
