About The Artwork

i would often do studies of the live model, but usually in pencil or charcoal. at one point i switched to using paint as my medium, these were relativly fast studies, so in oil one had to be confident in the marks. much like painting plein air, except this was in studio. the raw ness in this series is apparent and it gives a fresh, loose perspective on a finished picture

I play with paint, water, oil, oil bar and pencil. I visually record where i have been or what i see. Each series in my body of work tells a story, its ongoing. i love the word scribe for people who record music etc and in some ways i fall into that category and identify. Not all of my work is figurative, sometimes i wish to faithfully capture and image of a place and sometimes its a feeling or a memory that i am after. The mediums i use do dictate to a certain extent, i cannot get too detailed while using oil bar, and i consider this to be a good thing for me, allowing a free flow of concepts and ideas. i like change, and using different mediums enhances all of the experiences within my art. I greatly admire the work of J.M.W. Turner for the essence he imbued in his work. I also love the work of Hockney in contemporary art, he really pushes the boundaries. I relate to Artemesia Gentileschi for her staying power , in her time it was a mans game to paint. Anyone who takes the risk to expose there work has my admiration, so i am grateful for those who have gone before me.
