About The Artwork

This photograph was taken in 2019 in Mexico City. I really believe that the images are the ones that have to do the talk. That is the beauty of art, it has its own way to express itself and make you feel a certain way. I hope you like it.

I am a photographer by choice; I always knew what I wanted to do and my family contributed to it. Photographic images are voluptuous and compelling to me; watching them on television left me perplexed, captivated; it was practically impossible for me to get away from the screen. Going to the movies was a sublime experience. My father, an architect, instilled in me the functional, aesthetic and emotional knowledge contained in architectural structures. In my adolescence I discovered an indescribable pleasure and facility in playing Mexican folk music and folk music from other Latin American countries. I learned to play various instruments ... I was moved by the sound, the lyrics and the expressiveness of our folklore. I could grasp the sensitivity, and the love and fear deeply rooted in our culture. Right after High School Graduation I took off to N.Y.C. Out in the streets of Manhattan I started experimenting with my musical instruments and the folk melodies that melted into the whirling wind, the clashing steel, the fire engine sirens, and the random raging screams of some wandering homeless that would make the portentous architectural structures quiver. In spite of the downside to all things, I felt content and happy. Philosophical thought has been key to me in trying to understand life and reach conclusions that would allow me to move forward. Upon my return to Mexico, I felt the urge to look further into the underlying philosophical structure of the Law, so I enrolled in Law School at the “Universidad Iberoamericana”. Alas, I soon lost interest because Law School opened my eyes to the grim and harsh reality of corruption and injustice in the world, particularly in my country. By that time, I had already been practicing hang-gliding free flight for a few years. The appointed correspondent and journalist for Japan’s Asahi T.V. in Latin America, Mr. Tomonari Hiyama, contacted me and I soon became his flight instructor; we became friends and collaborators. My passion for creating images caught his attention and he invited me to work for his television station. Thus, I began to work as a correspondent cameraman for Central America and Mexico, covering the 1981-83 violent events which broke out in Central America and eventually had significant repercussions in Mexico.
