About The Artwork

This fine art photograph is from the series Street Flowers (Flores de Rua) created in Portugal, and is featured in the limited edition artist book of the project. Flores de Rua offers a tender focus on the delicate passage of change and time that is the experience of life. From the winter mornings of February to the spring afternoons of May, I collected fallen flowers from the streets, calcada and jardims in Lisbon, Portugal. They were often walked over, rained on, blown away, and stuck in between stones or dirt. This work is about intuition, trust, and openly receiving the elements of the universe, presented in the details and subtleties of daily life. The body of work is comprised of 36 large-scale photographs created with natural light in my Lisbon studio. The artist book has 11 texts in the form of poetry, short story and reflections by 11 writers and artists, with texts in English and Portuguese.

Art is magic, art is power, art creates space and language for that which lacks representation through conventional terms. My name is Andrea and I use art as a channel to advocate for humanity. Born to a Mexican mother and Austrian father, I was raised in a multicultural household within the California landscape, where as an adult I received a Bachelor’s and Master's degree in the Arts. Invested in developing cultural ecosystems for the greater good of humanity, my work is highly intentional and politically driven by my personal and social history. Cultivating resilience, intuition, integrity and optimism - I proactively assemble a tender language of art that creates space for human nature to be held, seen, heard. In my practice, I spend a lot of time reflecting on ways I can transform systemic challenges into regenerative processes. Which in turn produces the language of art I use to speak to and with the world. In speaking this very special language called art, my work takes form through interdisciplinary mediums, including public works, installation, large-scale video projection, performance, collaborative works, sculpture and photography.
