About The Artwork

This piece needs a very bright room with indirect lighting hitting it on either side and front on. With metallic highlights the work can almost disappear or light up depending on the angle of view and lighting conditions. The piece is rather enigmatic in that is is generally dark and somewhat low contrast depending on the lighting and angle of view. This photographic process is similar to "tin type" except on a larger scale using projection to expose "liquid light" painted on silver leaf. It is an archival selenium toned print. Often my work looks holographic or rather three dimensional because of the metallic highlights. Depending on the angle of viewing the work looks hidden or lights up when highlights properly reflect. Like photographing fairies over 100 years ago in England, this work too has a fairy or maternal feminine spirit captured on the 4 x 5 film. It is rather apparent and not the first time anthropomorphic imagery showed up in my nature photographs. It is not a trick but formed during the exposure of the tree; and if I must be honest I could feel the presence incredibly strongly as I worked.

Davis, from Toronto Canada, formerly exhibited with Marcia Rafelman Fine Arts in Toronto. He has been a professional artist for over 25 years. Inspired by tin types Davis silver and gold leafs canvas and applies photo sensitive emulsion onto this surface, and exposes and develops directly on the surface. The work is of a high gloss finish. Landscapes, still life, and fetish objects are the main subject matter. The works will be some of the longest lasting durable photographs from 21st century because of the technique.
