About The Artwork

Freestanding and structurally balanced yet light, shell-like and dynamic, Parallel Forces No. 3 is the 3rd in the series of Cedar sculptures. The series explores the interaction between absence and material, dynamic flow and abstract anthropomorphism. The material forms are calling on the unmanifested to join them in a dance of totality. By purifying the contours and flowing surfaces, Parallel Forces No.3 maintains a powerful visual presence. It cuts through the surrounding space standing strong and clear in its fluid movement. The surface of the wood is preserved with no added coating. This enables direct sensuous contact with the natural material - the aroma, smooth surface texture and colours enhance and bond figuratively with the final form of the piece.

Mike Sasaki was born in Toronto, Canada. He graduated from the Bachelor of Design Honours program at York University / Sheridan College in 2005. He lived in Tokyo, Japan for 5 years where he was immersed in traditional and modern Japanese culture. The martial arts philosophies have played an important role in his artistic development. In his search for a hands on approach he has found sculpting in wood a wonderful solution. He is currently living in Metro Vancouver and focusing on the metamorphic line of abstract wood forms.
