About The Artwork

The sanctuaire, the refuge, the maternal lair. Primal place, it is the den where we abandon ourselves, where we come from and where we return. Common and universal place of all creatures, It is sacred, it is trivial … Project All David J Royer works are handmade. For the "Antropocene Fossil " serie, he uses steel and a cellulose resin of his manufacture. The finished surfaces of each piece remain raw and highly textured, allowing a rich and multiform light play. His work is a hymn to sobriety : " A graphique and minimalist design is essential to tell the essentials. The key to conveying raw emotion, to creat meaning ". The Antropocene Fossil project is composed of sculptures made between 2010 and 2020. This work is an evocation of our time, a evocation of the future trace of modern man. To his emotional and passionate borrowing on the world. The materials used "Before embarking on the realization of this series of works, I had to choose the materials that were going to be used. I then set certain objectives, a set of precise specifications and require. I wanted materials that correspond to our time. That are consistent with the issues of our time. Therefore biobased and recyclable materials. Challenge : minimize my impact on the environnement. Moreover, these materials had to meet certain mechanical requirements, that they allow me to realize the very graphic, aerial and minimalist forms that I wanted to create. After much research and testing, I chose to use steel and a cellulose resin from my manufacturing. For me this alliance of materials is perfect. The cool colors, in the shades of white, grey, blue, as well as matte surfaces allow a particular light rendering and create this organic and singular presence which in my opinion perfectly illustrates this idea of "emotional and passionate borrowing" of human on the world".
